Title: Climate Commitment Letter

AMERICAN COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT'S

CLIMATE COMMITMENT

 

The University of West Florida (UWF) is committed to operating an energy and environmentally sustainable university. I am pleased to recommend that our University should join eight (8) other State University System Institutions and 674 universities nationwide by signing the President's Climate Commitment Letter. The University is committed to operating an energy-efficient and environmentally responsible university. The commitment and plan includes the following:

 

Execute and submit the American College & University President's Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) Letter

 

A.    Within two months of signing the letter, the Environmental Conservation and Beautification Committee (ECBC) will give guidance for ACUPCC implementation

 

B.     Within one year of signing the letter, the University will initiate a comprehensive inventory of all greenhouse gas emissions and update the inventory quarterly in FY 2010-2011

 

C.     Within two years of signing the letter, the University will initiate the development of a comprehensive plan to achieve climate neutrality as soon as possible which will include but not be limited to the following:

 

1.      Manage the development and implementation of a campus sustainability action plan

2.      Monitor progress of the plan to ensure milestones are met

3.      Engage campus stakeholders in a joint effort to reduce the campus ecological footprint

4.      Work with the campus community and others to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

5.      Integrate sustainability into existing educational, operational, and research programs

6.      Provide a foundation for support of campus-wide efforts to meet climate neutral goals
